Fürwahr, er trug unsre Krankheit                             Surely he took up our infirmities

Und lud auf sich unsre Schmerzen                            And carried our sorrows

Wir aber hielten ihn für den                                         Yet we considered him stricken by God

Der geplagt und von Gott geschlagen wäre             Smitten by him, and afflicted

 

Aber er ist um unsrer Sünde willen                            But he was pierced for our transgressions

verwundet und zerschlagen                                          He was crushed for our iniquities

Die Strafe liegt auf ihm                                                   The punishment that brought us peace

Auf dass wir durch ihn Frieden hätten                      Was upon him

 

Und durch seine Wunden sind wir geheilt               And by his wounds we are healed

Ein jeder sah auf seinen Weg                                       Each of us has turned to his own way

Doch der Herr nahm unser aller Sünde                    And the Lord has laid on him

Warf sie auf ihn                                                              The iniquity of us all

 

Als er gemartert ward                                                   He was oppressed

Litt er doch willig                                                           And afflicted

Und tat seinen Mund nicht auf                                    Yet he did not open his mouth

Wie ein Lamm                                                                 He was led like a lamb

Das man zur Schlachtbank führt                                 To the slaughter

 

So wollte ihn der Herr zerschlagen                             Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him

Mit unsrer Krankheit                                                     And cause him to suffer

Sein Schuldopfer führt uns zum Leben                      The Lord makes his life a guilt offering

So sehr hat Gott die Welt geliebt                                  This is how much God loved the world

 

Was kein Ohr gehört, kein Aug’ geseh’n hat               What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard

In keines Menschen Herz gekommen ist                    What no human mind has conceived

Was Gott bereitet hat                                                      The things God has prepared

All denen, die ihn lieben                                                For those who love him

 

Jesus sagt auch heute zu dir:                                         Jesus still tells you today:

Wenn du an mich glaubst                                               If you believe in me

Dann schenke ich dir das Leben                                   I will give you life

Leben im Überfluß                                                           Life in abundance
